SIGNATURE HAND DYED VELVET
A luxurious 100% cotton velvet that is perfect for needlepoint finishing. Signature velvet brings both a luxurious and cozy feeling to your creation.
Weight: medium/heavy.
Ironing: Iron from the back, ironing the front can result in damaged pile (the raised surface and nap of the velvet). Use a high heat/cotton setting with steam.
Best practices: When finishing or sewing, use care not to damage the velvet pile. Use wonder clips with care and don’t leave them on for too long. Also be carful with sharp implements, if the pile is poked or pressed it can remain indented (for example, if there’s a pin on your work surface and you accidentally press your ornament down on top of it while sewing or stretching the velvet, the pile may have a permanent indentation).
Selvedge: Some pieces of velvet will contain the selvedge. The selvedge consists of a cotton tape running down the edge of the fabric. We never include the selvedge in the measurement of the piece of velvet but sometimes leave it attached as that little bit of extra length may be helpful.
SILK DUPIONI
Silk dupioni is a very popular needlepoint finishing fabric. It has a beautiful luster and a signature irregular texture that runs in natural slubbed lines across the fabric. Silk dupioni brings a more formal and elevated feeling to your ornament.
Weight: medium/light.
Ironing: Iron on a silk/wool setting with a gentle steam if needed.
Best practices: As silk dupioni is a medium weight fabric it’s not necessary to use interfacing when finishing needlepoint ornaments and stand ups, however if your needlepoint is stitched in a heavy style you may find that the extra bulk added by interfacing ensures that the back and front of the ornaments match in size when sewed together.
